When is cortisone useful for atopic dermatitis?

Generally valid, that can not be answered. But it is true that cortisone preparations or ointments and creams that contain cortisone are still among the most effective remedies when it comes to relieving or stopping an acute inflammatory stimulus to the skin.

Unfortunately, cortisone supplements may have some unwanted side effects in the longer term. For permanent use on the skin, this may be e.g. very thin, brittle and fragile.

Nevertheless, cortisone-containing ointments, lotions or creams are often very effective in the acute episode of atopic dermatitis and help to relieve the acute symptoms quickly.
